Scott Astey
Scott D. Astey is a proud member of the Parma Symphony Orchestra, performing on string bass with a rich background in music education and performance. He is a graduate of Baldwin Wallace University, where he studied music education, psychology, and string bass under Cleveland Orchestra bassist, Henry Peyrebrune. Scott began his career teaching high school orchestra and band In Euclid before assuming the baton as conductor of the Heights High Symphony at Cleveland Heights–University Heights High School. During his time there, he led the symphony orchestra, assisted with the band, conducted the pit orchestra for musicals, facilitated the chamber music program, and founded both the school’s Tri-M Music Honor Society chapter and its AP Music Theory program.
After his tenure at Heights, Scott spent five years teaching beginning strings in the Hudson City School District. He later transitioned into educational administration to make a broader impact on students and school communities. For the past 11 years, he has served as the assistant principal of Wilcox Primary School. Scott currently resides in Broadview Heights, Ohio, with his three children and their dog, Duke. He is honored to perform with the Parma Symphony Orchestra and is grateful and appreciative for the opportunity to make music once again with such a talented and dedicated ensemble.
